Who needs discipline?

by Annelie on

disciplines valuesI always laugh when parents tell their friends how undisciplined their children are… they stuggle to get their child to do what needs to get done, whether it be cleaning the room, doing their homework, or to stop running in the house.  Oh… are you one of them?! Well, you might learn something by reading this post then…

Discipline has a really bad name, since it usually makes you feel like you have to do something you don’t want to do, but in actual fact, we are all disciplined in the things we like doing… nobody needs to motivate or reward you for things you love… whether it be cooking, talking or dancing.

Before you do however, this is part 6 of a series of exercises, and what I’m talking about will probably not make any sense to you unless you do exercises 1 – 5 first.  So if you have not done so yet, please do them, so you can be up to date and get the full benefit of this exercise.  Also, if you have not downloaded my e-book on my website yet, please do so now (fill in your detail on the right…) since these exercises are meant to increase your understanding of the book and will create awareness in your life.

Click on these links for each of the exercises:  Exercise 1, Exercise 2, Exercise 3, Exercise 4, Exercise 5 or continue reading  if you have done all of these…

Everybody is disciplined in the things that are most important to them, and as I have mentioned in my previous post, you tend to judge others as “bad” or “wrong” when they do things that doesn’t support your Highest Values.  If you know somebody’s Highest Values, and you communicate your needs in terms of their Values, you can get whatever you want, without compromise! But more about this later… for now, let’s focus on discipline.

As we go through life, different things become important to us… things change, and so, our values change.  Whatever is most important to us, we tend to do no matter what comes in the way.  Say for instance you have a favourite Television show every Monday night at 7pm… you will schedule your appointments around that time so as to make sure that you don’t miss this show.  Or, if you are a bodybuilder, you will probably schedule your life around your training times and meals…  and nothing will come in the way of you sticking to your regime.

Example:

Things you value Higher level need that is fulfilled
Exercise External beauty
Exercise Business (relieves stress and helps you focus )
Exercise Health

Obviously you will have 3 different examples, but I just wanted to clarify that 1 thing you do, could mean more than one thing.  Think outside the box with this one… you could have discipline in anything!  Also, remember, there are no right or wrong answers, only the one you give.  Don’t judge your answers and be honest, as this will help you understand why you do certain things… and also why you get certain results in your life.

Here is mine:

Things you value Higher level need that is fulfilled
Clients Business
Events and seminars dates and times Inspiring events
Yoga and spiritual mentoring Spiritual awareness

So, get your pen and paper ready and give 3 answers to the following question…

Question 6:  Where are you most disciplined in your life? Where will you always be on time, making sure you don’t miss this event/appointment?  What do you constantly do, without excuses?  What will always come first on your priority list?

The fact that you have completed all 6 exercises so far, means that you are disciplined in creating awareness in your life.  Congratulations!
