Organised Chaos

by Annelie on

Have you ever walked into somebody’s office and notice that every file and book is perfectly arranged in alphabetical order or size;   then one day they invite you to their home for dinner and you walk into a chaotic room where everything is random and disorganised?  Or, how about this… you are always on time for picking up and dropping off your children, but whenever you have a dentist appointment or work meeting, you are running late.  What does this mean?  How would you describe the 1st person?  And the second person?

Your answers to these questions will give you some insights on your own values, since we tend to label people based on our own values.   We only label them “negatively” (in this instance it could be as a slob, or value organiseirresponsible) if what they are doing is different to the way we would have done it.

Before you read further… it is important that you know that this is part 5 of a series of exercises.  If you have not completed the first 4, please click below to complete them before you continue with the rest of this exercise.

Exercise 1, Exercise 2, Exercise 3, Exercise 4… for the rest of you, please continue…

Whatever is important to you will tend to be organised and you will take the time to make sure you know exactly what is going on in that area of your life.  In this exercise, we are looking at which areas of your life you are most organised.  It could be that you have a diary of only clients, or only social events.  Maybe you are so organised in some areas that you don’t even have a diary, you know the dates and times off by heart!  If somebody had to swop lives with you at this moment… which areas of your life will fall apart and which will be organised in such a clear manner that it will keep running smoothly?

Examples:

Things you value Higher level need that is fulfilled
Books in alphabetic order knowledge
Diary for child’s vaccinations Children
I know the timetables for trains to and from work work

Or

Things you value Higher level need that is fulfilled
I know when each of my friends are finishing work and what days they are free Social
I know how much of which ingredients goes in each of the recipes I make Cooking
I know the best places and times  to invest in certain commodities Investment / wealth

Here is mine:

Things you value Higher level need that is fulfilled
Noting down dates and times of inspiring events before I book anything else Inspiring events
Socially meeting up with friends Social
Quality time for my husband and I Relationship with husband

Now it’s your turn, so grab that piece of paper with a table on and note down 3 answers for the following question:

Question 5:  Where are you most organised in your life? Where do you have perfect order and total control in your life?  Do you arrange your CD’s alphabetically?

Well done, the fact that you have all 5 questions’ answers together in one place means that you are, on some level, organised… which means that your personal growth is important to you :)
