H
ave you realised that it doesn’t matter how tired you are, when you want to do something that you love, you suddenly get a second breath. On the other hand… you could have slept for 10 hours, feel as energetic as you’ve been in ages but if somebody forces you to sit in a seminar on a subject you hate, you will walk out of there feeling like a zombie!
Before you continue reading… this is a follow up from the first 2 exercises. If you haven’t done those yet, you might not understand what this is all about. So start with the first exercise to determine your Highest Values by clicking here. If you have done the first exercise, but not the second one, catch up by clicking here. For the rest of you ready for question 3, get that table out and find the nearest pen.
Everybody has things they love to do… things that, if I wake you up at 3 o’clock in the morning, you will not actually bite my head off, but jump out of bed, ready to do this thing till late into the next day!
There are many things that use our energy during the day, sometimes we use our energy on things we loathe doing and that takes even more energy than things we like.
Question 3: How do you spend most of your energy? What are the things that you always have energy for, even after working 12 hours shifts 3 days in a row? And what are the things, even if you don’t like them, that takes most of your energy?
Examples:
| Things you value | Higher level need that is fulfilled |
| Making food | Health (nutrition is important) |
| Making food | Family ( make sure they get what they need) |
| Making food | Cooking (you like cooking) |
Or
| Things you value | Higher level need that is fulfilled |
| travelling | Work (getting to and from work) |
| travelling | Travel (seeing the world) |
| travelling | Driving (you love driving) |
Your answers will not all be one “thing you value”, but I am giving you these examples to make sure you understand that doing one thing, might mean different things to different people.
This is mine:
| Things you value | Higher level need that is fulfilled |
| writing a book | Inspiration |
| Teaching | Create awareness |
| Managing people and things | Managing |
So, what is yours?
Remember one thing… don’t judge your answers. You might not like the way you spend your energy, but this is the way that you are doing it at the moment, so this is how you want to write it down. It is only once you identify what you like and don’t like that you are able to change it, so be honest!
We tend to keep our vitality if we love life and the things we do in life, so if you are not absolutely loving what you do… learn to love it! If you can’t do that, change it!
Till next time… take care
