Well, Values are one of the factors that determine your life decisions: Interactions, Choices, How you spend your time, Money and Energy.
Understanding what makes you tick puts great power in your hands, simply because knowing these grant you a deeper understanding of your life. And over the next few weeks, you will determine your values!
BUT FIRST: have you downloaded and read my book? It’s essential for the series of exercises to make ANY sense. So before you continue, enter your name and email on the right, download the book and get reading!
Up to speed already? Great! Grab a pen and paper and click on the “Read More…”
Here we go… Value Determination.
Values are the “things” in your life you find important. Sometimes a lot of things you do can fulfil the same value… our focus is to determine your Higher Level Values. There are 12 questions in total, but for this week let’s focus on the first one…
Get a pen and paper, and draw up this table. Be sure to save your answers for the next few weeks:
Question 1: How do you fill your personal space (office or home)? You tend to keep things close to your heart if it is important to you, and less important things goes into the garage or attic… so what does your environment show about what is important to you?
For example, say your answer is: Books, DVD’s, CD’s. To interpret this, your answers could mean that, amongst other things you have a need for Entertainment, Knowledge, Relaxation or Intellectual Stimulation.
These are your “Higher level Values” that you are looking for. Please note however, that you are only allowed to write 3 for each question… no more, no less, so choose the most important ones!
Extending the above example, your final answer to Question 1 will be: Knowledge, Entertainment, Relaxation (rather than “Books, DVD’s, CD’s”… your answers might be different, so make sure you answer whatever YOU “get” out of Reading Books, Watching DVD’s or Listening to CD’s. What’s in it for you?). A good way of finding the Higher Level Value is by asking yourself, “what need does this action/thing fulfil?”
Another Example for Question 1: Neat and Tidy, Books
… these things you value could fulfil your higher need for Order, Control, Cleanliness or Perfection, and then Knowledge, Entertainment or Relaxation respectively. In this case you only have 2 things you value, but they fulfil the 3 Higher Level Value of: Control, Cleanliness and Knowledge.
It would look like this:
Another example, answers question 1:
Beautiful Art — Art
Photos of Nature — Photography
Technology — Technology
Or
Beautiful Art — Prestige
Photos of Nature — Nature
Technology — Entertainment
Here is mine:
Being Comfortable and Warm — Comfort/warmth
People — Social
Books/Audio/Movies — Knowledge
Go ahead and do the following:
- List your 3 Higher Level Value answers for each question. No more, No less!
- A value should be 1 – 3 words, not sentences!
- Keep in mind, this is a Real-Life test, so there are no right or wrong answers. Only the answer you give can be right for you.
- ** VERY IMPORTANT ** : Don’t answer what you wish to be true… As this is not what is really presented in your life. Answer the question as if you are an Outsider, looking in on your life, and list only what you see as real.
Get it?
During the next few weeks, we will explore more questions to determine what is important to You… rather than what you think should be important to you.
Stick with this and you will be rewarded with a whole new understanding of your life.
Good Luck!
Annelie

Hi Annelie, I got your web address from a friend. I feel very inspired reading your book “10 things you need to know about your perception of reality”. Just a few questions I have regarding you’r book that I need your assistance with. Can I maybe get your email address so that we can talk about these matters personally. I would also like to know if you have any other books that I can read. Thank You Kindly.
Hi Michelle
Thank you for your comment, it makes what I do worthwhile
I assume you have finished reading the e-book? I would love to discuss with you the things you are unclear about, but would like to minimise the questions to the most important ones, since I get a lot of questions, and it takes time to answer… therefore questions might not be answered right away. You can just reply to this email with your questions.
I am currently writing a book, but this is not finished yet… When I am finished with my book I will let everybody know… all these matters are discussed in much more depth in the book.
I’ve got another e-book about relationships, you will receive this in the following few weeks via the emails I send you now and then. In the meantime… do the exercises from the emails, it should clear up a couple of things. Hope that answers your questions
